Role Description and Expectations
The Copy Supervisor with an Oncology specialization is responsible for generating innovative ideas and creating concepts for advertising and promotional copy specific to oncology treatments and cancer care. This includes developing texts from draft stage through finished product with their art partner while working closely with Creative and Client Service teams to ensure alignment with client oncology marketing strategies and objectives within specified deadlines. As a people manager, the Copy Supervisor manages and mentors creatives reporting to them and, as needed, on projects. This role demands advanced understanding of oncology-specific content, industry trends, and Klick Health departmental procedures, such as routing, print production, protocols, usage rights for stock, and images for layout, as well as other internal solutions practiced by our creative craft.
Key Accountabilities:
- Oncology Expertise: Demonstrates a deep understanding of oncology treatments, therapeutic areas, and challenges in the market. Evaluates work in light of the competitive landscape in cancer treatment marketing.
- Creative Excellence in Oncology: Ensures the visualization and messaging of oncology products are compelling while staying within budget limits. Has a strong grasp of production processes (CGI, shoots, stock, etc.).
- Innovation in Oncology Marketing: Proposes creative ideas tailored to oncology audiences, challenging the status quo while aligning with the client’s marketing strategy.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Participates actively in brainstorming sessions, providing oncology-specific insights. Defends the strengths of existing oncology concepts while being open to further explorations. Builds strong relationships with internal teams and clients.
- Brand Consistency and Accuracy: Reviews all oncology-related materials to ensure consistency with brand guidelines and adherence to medical and regulatory standards.
- Storytelling and Strategy: Works with the art partner to skillfully craft copy that communicates the client’s oncology messaging across all channels, using compelling storytelling techniques that support strategy.
- Process Management: Communicates effectively with Creative Shared Services to ensure smooth flow of projects, meeting oncology-specific deadlines and compliance requirements.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Manages and mentors direct reports, setting oncology-specific career development goals, providing guidance, and supporting learning opportunities.
- Client and Budget Management: Maintains awareness of oncology campaign budgets and proactively alerts Client Service when work may exceed scope. Builds strong client relationships by leading discussions on oncology campaigns and maintaining trust.
- Industry Awareness: Keeps up to date on oncology and pharmaceutical marketing trends, sharing insights with internal teams to elevate creative excellence.
Skills:
- Understanding of oncology treatments, cancer care, and the healthcare market.
- Proven ability to produce effective oral and written communications specific to complex medical topics.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, especially when engaging with medical and regulatory teams.
- Exhibits sound judgment and problem-solving skills in a heavily regulated oncology environment.
- Demonstrates an ability to build trust and rapport with clients in the oncology field.
- Established presentation skills to communicate complex oncology marketing strategies effectively.
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in marketing/advertising, with a minimum of 3 years writing about oncology, cancer treatments, or related therapeutic areas.
- Experience developing creative content for oncology campaigns, including familiarity with medical and regulatory review processes.
- Comfort with and enthusiasm for integrating AI into oncology content creation and workflows.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising/Marketing, Communications, Writing, or related discipline preferred.
- Additional certification or training in medical writing or oncology content creation is a plus.
