Job Description
The Assistant Medical Writer intern supports the development of scientifically accurate, strategically aligned medical communications across pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device projects. This role partners with Medical Writers, Scientific Strategists, Creative teams, and Client Services to translate complex data into audience-appropriate content. The position provides hands-on exposure to regulated communications and cross-functional collaboration. Success is measured by clarity of scientific interpretation, quality of writing, responsiveness to feedback, and adherence to quality control processes.
Internship Term: May - August, 2026
What You’ll Do
- Conduct structured literature reviews using scientific databases to support content development across therapeutic areas.
- Draft and revise medical communications deliverables (e.g., slide decks, websites, abstracts, manuscripts) aligned to approved strategy and regulatory standards.
- Synthesize clinical trial data and published research into clear narratives tailored to physicians, specialists, nurses, or patient audiences.
- Apply referencing standards (e.g., AMA style) and manage citations using reference management tools.
- Collaborate with Medical, Creative, Client Services, and Project Management partners to meet timelines and quality review requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduating by April 2026 or graduated within the past three years from a doctoral-level program (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with demonstrated academic research or thesis experience.
- Demonstrated scientific writing ability through authored research papers, posters, or presentations submitted in academic or professional settings.
- Experience analyzing and synthesizing primary literature from peer-reviewed journals, evidenced through coursework or research projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for developing structured scientific documents and presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously, demonstrated through academic research, lab work, or collaborative projects.
Desired:
- Comfort and enthusiasm for using AI as a regular part of how work gets done.
- Familiarity with the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, or healthcare sectors demonstrated through coursework, internships, or research exposure.
- Working knowledge of AMA style guidelines and experience using citation management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero).
- Experience presenting scientific content to diverse audiences with measurable outcomes (e.g., graded presentation, conference poster, seminar).
- Interest in digital health communications or omnichannel medical education strategies.
Additional Information
This posting is for a newly created role at Klick. The base salary for this position is CAD 65,000 per year and will be determined based on several factors such as a candidate’s work location, their unique skill set, education, and prior experience.
