Job Description
The Senior Art Director develops strategic creative concepts and art direction for healthcare and pharmaceutical brands, taking work from initial concept through final execution in partnership with Copy and cross-functional teams. This role translates client objectives and audience insights into integrated creative work while collaborating with Client Services, Medical, Regulatory, Production, and other creative disciplines. The Senior Art Director also provides creative direction and feedback to junior team members while helping ensure work is accurate, on strategy, and delivered to established timelines.
What You’ll Do
- Develop integrated campaign concepts and art direction with Copy partners, translating client objectives, audience insights, and marketing strategy into clear creative executions across channels.
- Present and defend creative concepts to clients and internal stakeholders, incorporating feedback while maintaining strategic intent and identifying opportunities to strengthen the work.
- Direct designers, photographers, illustrators, and production partners from concept through final execution, applying appropriate production processes, image licensing, usage rights, and quality standards.
- Partner with Client Services, Medical, Science & Regulatory, and Production teams to verify claims and content, resolve creative challenges, and deliver accurate work against project scope and deadlines.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of art direction or design experience within marketing or advertising, demonstrated through a portfolio of concept-driven work developed from initial idea through final execution.
- Experience developing integrated campaign concepts and visual systems, with portfolio examples demonstrating art direction across multiple channels and deliverable types.
- Healthcare, pharmaceutical, or life sciences advertising experience, including demonstrated work within medical, regulatory, or claims-review processes.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and relevant design tools, demonstrated through professional creative deliverables and production-ready work.
- Experience presenting creative concepts to clients or senior stakeholders and translating strategic objectives and feedback into clear visual solutions.
- Experience directing or collaborating with designers, photographers, illustrators, production partners, and junior creatives across multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
Desired:
- Comfort and enthusiasm for using AI as a regular part of how work gets done.
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Visual Communications, or a related discipline.
- Experience directing photography or illustration and carrying creative work through production and final delivery.
- Experience with image licensing, usage rights, print or digital production workflows, and other agency creative-production processes.
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior creatives through project-based direction, critique, and feedback.
