Position Title: Director, Business Affairs - Creative Production
Team: Production, as part of the Creative department
Reports to: VP, Business Affairs - Creative Production
Role Description and Expectations
As the Director, Business Affairs - Creative Production, you will be responsible for supporting all talent and legal components of projects completed by the Production team. You will act as both a talent affairs manager and rights and licensing expert, supporting Producers and Creatives with securing the right talent and assets that are needed to create exceptional work. You are the person who keeps legal, compliance, and rights-ownership in check. You are a problem solver, creative partner and proactive negotiator. You are curious, tenacious and the perfect blend of a rule-follower and pioneer. In this role you will also be the key point of contact for Klick’s legal and finance teams, and will work closely with Supervising Producers and Producers to ensure all projects are appropriately contracted, licensed and paid. You can turn chaos into clarity and enjoy the process of doing so.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide business affairs leadership and subject matter ownership for the creative production team
- Support key stakeholders across multiple Klick business units as a shared service leader
- Respond to new vendor contract and/or talent requests from within Klick, as the key point of contact
- Collaborate with producers and the Executive Producer on the needs of contracts support
- Lead SAG-AFTRA and ACTRA partnerships, and any other talent union relationships
- Understand the nuance and requirements of working with talent unions, union talent and non-union talent, in Canada, the United States and abroad
- Oversee all talent relationships, agent relationships, booking companies, casting firms, and their subsequent contracts and negotiations for (including, but not limited to): actors, voice actors, models, influencers, celebrities, musicians, artists, performers, creators, freelance talent, etc.
- Propose, create, own and manage all templates, key documents and internal processes for business affairs, contract templates, key talent management documents, etc.
- Oversee rights and licensing for all work, including static and moving content, music, etc.
- Manage vendor contracts and relationships
- Ensure all contracts, legal requirements and vendor agreements are negotiated effectively, approached with consistency and are financially optimized.
- Support the BA team in costing talent for producers as needed: celebrity, union, non-union and real people
- Ensure the completion and storage of all contracts, talent and vendor, are in compliance with agency operations and BA requirements, as set by the VP, Business Affairs
- Support all celebrity chase, pitch and negotiation activities on behalf of the BA team
- Support all broadcast trafficking and distribution activities on behalf of the agency and act as a liaison with our trafficking service partner. Ensure this relationship remains productive for Klick and its clients.
- Work effectively and proactively in all network clearance activities and forge strong relationships with all relevant stakeholders to ensure world-class broadcast creative is possible for Klick and its clients.
- Guide the talent payments work of the department, while also ensuring talent residuals and renewals are flagged and managed effectively with clients and client teams
- Direct talent residual and renewal forecasting as needed
- Support the execution of casting best practices with the producers, contracts team and other stakeholders as required

Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in 360 production with a focus on broadcast
- 4-6 years experience in a department leadership position
- Experience working in an agency setting is required
- Experience working at a network agency is an asset
- Experience working with clients in life sciences and pharma
- Experience producing in a regulatory environment or in a regulated industry is an asset
- Experience working abroad or producing with international partners is an asset
- Experience teaching a craft speciality in an agency setting to production professionals is required
- 10-11 years of experience managing talent, licenses and contracts in an agency environment
- Experience working in a broadcast agency setting is required
- Experience working on a global-scale with vendor contracts, legal, risk management, compliance, etc. is required
- Experience working with or for a casting agency, talent union, talent representation firm, etc is an asset
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a related field is an asset
- Equivalent work experience in related field is an asset
- Related fields: production, broadcast, marketing, advertising, operations, law/legal, contracts, talent management, negotiations, leadership, broadcast
