Business Support Specialist

We are looking for a Business Support Specialist to join our Technology Team. In this role, you will ensure that tasks are defined, scheduled, resourced and executed. Reporting to the Business Support Manager for Technology and working with VPs and Technical Directors, you will help manage the workflow for development across a number of projects and programs and ensure the delivery follows processes and checkpoints. You will be a master at connecting the dots and understanding the dependencies for projects – the glue to keep us all together. You will also provide day-to-day support as needed by the team to ensure efficient continued operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage schedules, changes, commitments, and timelines of a group of up to 30 developers on multiple projects
  • Provide career and personal mentorship to the team members
  • Complete ad-hoc requests to support the team

COMMUNICATION TOUCH POINTS

  • Manage ticket and emails from cross-functional teams (Project Management, Technical Directors, Client Services) and allocate to technical team
  • Follow up on any general requests from Technical Directors or VP Technology
  • Follow up on support tasks requested by Business Support Manager

CONSISTENCY

  • Work closely with Technical Directors to gather estimates from technical team members
  • Set up technical kickoffs and pre-QA reviews for all projects
  • Review overall PMO Project Plans with Technical Directors
  • Create and maintain technical coordination documents for their accounts’ projects: Technical Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Technical Risks, Technical Change Log

TASK MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor task completion and progression of workflow through the technical team
  • Highlight delays, challenges or roadblocks to the Project Managers and Technical Directors as they are identified
  • Assist in removing roadblocks caused by dependencies or delays through open communication and coordination of key players
  • Call out Technical WBS overages to Production Lead and Technical Director
  • Manage the assignment/resourcing of developers and quality assurance specialists
  • Work with Project Managers to align timelines and requests with available resources
  • Create necessary development tickets based on scope

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant university degree in Business or Information Technology OR equivalent work experience in a technical or business/technical field
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at a time
  • Sound analytical, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Must be personable but also assertive, able to work well with people to “get stuff done”

BONUS POINTS:

  • Experience with following and leveraging both Agile project management methodologies (including Scrum, Sprint Planning, Refactoring, etc.) and waterfall project management
  • Experience working in a technical development environment that utilizes project management principles. (PMP or project management training is an asset.)
  • Experience in web development, software development, application implementation, mobile, CRM in a business analyst, project management or development role (preferred)
  • Experience creating business requirements documents (BRD’s), functional design documents or other relevant solution documentation
  • Strong understanding of technology and ability to manage risks
  • Jira experience
